Let’s dive in.
No wait.
Maybe I shouldn't just get started. I should probably grab your attention better.
Ugh. I’m no good at this.
I’m no good at any of this.
This never comes easy for me. I should just give up.
I could always go back to nursing.
Maybe I’m better suited for that. But, I’m not really that good at being a nurse either. It’s just all a struggle for me. I’m probably not destined to be good at anything. I’m just here… taking up air.
And that is what goes through my brain when I don’t manage my thoughts. When I choose to run with the enemy’s lies instead of choosing the Spirit’s.
When I walk down this road, I deteriorate any self-confidence I have been building. I stop following through on my commitments and I start to hide or avoid the outside world.
I start proving the enemy’s lies true... that I'm just here, taking up air.
Two weeks ago, I explained why it’s vital that we Christian women take a good long look at our self-confidence. If you haven’t read that post you can find it HERE. Last week, I gave you the first tool to building self-confidence; making reasonable requests and following through on those requests to build trust.
This week, let us learn the second tool to building self-confidence…having an amazing opinion of yourself.
You alone created my inner being. You knitted me together inside my mother. I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this. Psalm 139:13-14
However, you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, people who belong to God. You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God, who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8
These are God’s words. This is how He thinks about you. Amazing and miraculous. Chosen. Royal. A work of God’s hands. And these are just a few of His thoughts about you.
What if you said these things to yourself every day and BELIEVED them?
How good would you feel? How do you think you would act?
Pretty amazing right?
Do you see? How you think about yourself means everything in how you ACT; how you show up in this world.
Even if you didn’t know God’s loving words about who you are, what is the upside to thinking badly about yourself?
In thinking…
“I’m no good.”
“I’m terrible at everything.”
“My life is such a struggle.”
“Everything is so hard.”
“I’M NOT ENOUGH.” (Capitalized for the fact that we all think this one!)
Nothing. There is no upside thinking about ourselves this way.
Because when we think about these negative thoughts about ourselves we hide, get angry, hold grudges, poorly perform, become unfocused, lose relationships, over eat, over drink and so much more.
All negative actions we that make us feel WORSE.
You want to build self-confidence? You want to be confident in who God made you? Start talking to yourself like God talks to you, through His word.
That’s when things start to shift. You start realizing you were put on this earth for a plan (Isaiah 29:11) and you were put here to do good works (Ephesians 2:10).
Then you start doing those good works.
Which just builds more confidence and more abundant living.
And so on and so on....
Pretty cool, right?!
P.S. Here is the deal. Changing your opinion of yourself when you haven’t had a good one for a long time…tough to do. It takes time, support and follow through. That’s what I’m here for.
